Dierbare Vera, Moontje Kroon / Monna Corona speelde inderdqqd reeds een hoofdrol in Boem Boem 1, toen Covid-19 enkel nog maar een onderonsje was onder Wuhanese vleermuizen. Puur toeval dus.
En dat begint me te verontrusten.
Toen ik Boem Boem 1 schreef waren er nog geen echte granaataanslagen in Antwerpen. Kijk nu maar eens.
Het bloedbad in Parijs in BLing Bling speelt zich af op slechts enkele stappen van de Bataclan. En dat schreef ik vele maanden eerder. De overval op Brussels Airport schreef ik een jaar voor de aanslag aldaar. Ik weet zelf niet goed wat ik daar allemaal moet uit afleiden maar ik zou er toch eens over nadenken voor ik ga duiken in Beringen of muziekles ga volgen in Brussel. (Aan marathons doe ik vanzelf al niet deel).

Stop aspiring. Sit down at your desk and just start doing it.
You don't start being a book writer: you start by being a page writer. Then you become a chapter writer. It builds, step by step. You learn as the story comes together. You change things, improve them. And then at the end, months later, before you even realise, you have become a book writer.
Or you don't. Maybe you start writing and you mess up big time and you hate every moment of it and finally you decide that soccer or flowers are more interesting. But then at least, you'll know.
So shut down this computer and get to it. Don't check your watch. You'll be late for bed anyhow. Enjoy!!

I felt this tingle to start writing fiction stories when I was at the age of 10, or 12 maybe. It was at the top of my bucket list the whole time but there were always more important things. And somehow I thought that bookwriting is a profession in it's own right. One I would like to master if I had time, but sadly I didn't.
It took till I was 55 before I started to write. Now, I can only imagine what I could have written all those years in between.

There has been a real diamond heist at Brussels Airport, in February 2013. I was the airport's spokesperson at that time and it made me wonder: "what would happen if I came home tonight with 50 million dollars worth of diamonds in the trunk of my car? What can you do with those (you can't sell them). Unconsciously, I was building on a fiction story, that became Bling Bing in 2016. To be clear: the Bling Bling story is purely fictional and has nothing to do with the real diamond robbery.
