Anurag Tripathi I have been reading a lot of Charles Bukowski lately, Women, Post Office, Factotum, and some short story compilations. Next on list is Ham on rye.
Anurag Tripathi Keep your eyes and ears open. Everything that happens around you, or with you, can be part of a story. I travel the world, meeting new people, eating new cuisines, learning about their life and culture. Every life experience adds to what you write. You are always on the job.
Anurag Tripathi Kevin and Winnie, The Wonder Year. I used to watch this serial when I was growing up. I liked the simplicity of characters and emotions. I guess it was reflective of the times in the 60s and 70s.
Anurag Tripathi My debut novel, Kalayug, is a thriller that exposes the underbelly of the art industry. While the plot is based in India, it has global relevance. I was inspired to write about this topic based on a true event. A friend bought a painting from an art auction, only to be informed a few days days later that it was a fake. What transpired thereafter, gave me key insights into the working of the art industry. I researched on this topic for over 2 years before putting pen on paper. I think, this is the first novel that deals with the art industry comprehensively, from dynamics of auctions, to the underground world of forgery, to issues plaguing art authentication.

Don't worry, it is fast paced, the plot has freshness and the story is gripping, moving from fact to fiction and vice-versa.
Anurag Tripathi I am inspired by the broader themes of greed and deceit that mire today's decadent society. I have just finished writing my second draft of my second novel that deals with the journey of a young college pass-out in the big bad world of capital markets. While much has been written about this subject in the past, I feel, I bring a new perspective. The genre is a thriller.
Anurag Tripathi I have several suggestions for aspiring writers:

a) Please don't write for money. Don't get me wrong, we all need money for a lively-hood, but if what is driving you to write is commercial success, then my friend, you are already on a very steep slope.

b) Writing is a very tedious process. While we all like to write about things we know, based on our personal experiences, it is my suggestion that you write about something that you 'wish to know' rather than something that you 'know already'.

c) Before starting on your dream project, please do ask the question, why would someone be interested in reading what I am writing? This will tremendously help you later when you are trying to market the book. It is easier to sell a marketable product than to create a product which has no market and then try to sell it.

4) Enjoy the process of writing. Like they say, travel is not only about reaching the destination, it is about the experience of travel itself.
Anurag Tripathi There are two ways in which I deal with writers block:

a) Research on a completely unrelated topic. This allows the creative juices to continue flowing. After a few days, I have found that I am able to get back to my current assignment.
b) Just drop everything and chill out. I mean complete state of relaxation. Generally, in a few days, my fingers are itching to go.
