Cayla VanHulle I kind of just ran with the story. I've had Connor and Randy in my head for about...fifteen, sixteen years now? I remember trying to write my first novel in sixth grade, and I've been using the same characters in different situations. This one stuck.

More advice: Learn to take valuable critique but hold your ground when you truly believe you have something golden. It's okay to write in passive voice sometimes, it's okay to have awkward dialogue.
Cayla VanHulle Living in multiple worlds. If I want to escape the daily grind I can close my eyes and envision what the citizens in my head are up to.
Cayla VanHulle I let it rest. I clean my house, think about writing, do the dishes, think about writing, try to work, think about writing, and then hope that in a week, two weeks, three weeks I can get back on the wagon.
