Patricia Wilkinson Ah, the way Brain Stages became a reality is quite an interesting, amazing story of incredible "coincidences" -- the merging of two authors' dream of helping parents and educators facilitate the best possible upbringing for happy, well-adjusted, successful children. You can read the story here:

Patricia Wilkinson Ha! I'm always writing something. It's kind of a compulsion. I just wish there were more hours in a day. ;)

Sorry, that may not have been helpful. It's just that once writers start writing daily, clicking the keys to create something kind of becomes a part of us. It's hard for most of us to ever stop.
Patricia Wilkinson I'm currently working on a 6-part blog series to help parents develop their children's emotional quotient. Everyone can benefit from the posts, though. The series is a how-to for boosting your emotional and social skills for more satisfying relationships and a happier life. I just connected my blog to my Goodreads feed, so you can find the series right here. :)

I'm also working on revising the first book in my YA Mind Touch series about a 15-year-old Latina in Los Angeles who senses things she doesn't understand, but she worries her dad is in danger. She takes off to Jalisco to save to him and finds she may not make it out of Mexico alive.
Patricia Wilkinson Read a lot of books, articles, and short stories in the genre(s) you like to write. Before long, you'll begin to recognize what works and what doesn't. You'll find favorite authors and begin to borrow nuances and techniques they use until you develop your own rhythm and style. Writing takes discipline. Carve out a specific time on specific days to write--even if you can only spare 15 minutes a day. You'll find you get pretty efficient with that limited amount of time. Practice makes better. There's no substitute for just getting your butt in the chair, clicking the keys, and keeping at it until you create something. Oh, and before you send out a piece for acceptance, hire an editor to help you polish. You'll have a much better chance of selling your work.
Patricia Wilkinson Getting to work out what I want to say in print is such a gift. Writing is all about communication. How often have you been in a conversation with someone and thought of something better you wished you'd said later? If I don't feel I've communicated what I want to say as well as I could in nonfiction, or conveyed a character's layers and their situation in fiction, I get to revise until I'm satisfied with what's on the page. Writing is awesome!
Patricia Wilkinson Whether writing fiction or nonfiction, if I get stuck while writing a story, article, or chapter, I do more research. Reading other people's work always gives me ideas and gets me back on track.
