Declan Davey The initial stages of 'Honey Talk' came from the idea of exploring how people attempt to talk about traumas from their past. I also wanted to examine the powerful hold that emotional instability and self-doubt could have over the protagonist's mind. I was back and forth on the ending for a while. The final decision made me feel uncomfortable, and so I decided to stick with it.
Declan Davey Routine > creativity. I don't particularly want to believe that, but I have found it to be true so far! Experiment and get your system down. Have your writing location, your days of the week, your optimal hours of day - as many behavioural cues as possible to reduce the decision-making fatigue of 'should I write today? Will the words come? Shall I watch Netflix instead?' etc.
Declan Davey The cool (and somewhat freaky) thing about writing a book is that it is going to outlive you. So, it could be viewed as one of the best ways to leave a 'legacy' of work. Another inspiration is being able to articulate the darker side of human nature, or the 'shadow' as Jung would say - it can be difficult to find opportunities in everyday life to express this part of ourselves.
Declan Davey I'm not sure whether I truly believe in writer's block, but I'm not long enough in the game yet to dismiss the concept! Some people would say work on another project. I prefer to zone in on one story idea at a time. I find walks in nature great for a freshen-up, or visiting a place I have never been before for inspiration.
