Just do it, and start by calling yourself a writer. You don't have to be published to be a writer. Also, don't worry about if whatever you are working on right now is good enough. Don't think about your audience, at least not at first. Approach it like a habit, a routine. Write every day, even if only 50 words in a notepad. There is no secret knowledge associated with being a good writer, only empathy, artistry, and practice.
And read. Read as much as you have time to.

The ideas in this book come from a long series of experiences working as an early career anthropologist and ecologist. When I started studying ecology in graduate school, I fell in love with the metaphors I encountered: mutualism, keystone, engineer, niche. But, at first glance, they also discouraged me. Why do all other species enjoy such elegant interactions? Why is humanity excluded? I set out to learn why. The answer, I learned, is that we are not excluded. We’ve self-selected ourselves from these ways of life because of the myths we believe about who we are.
It took me many years to get to a place in my own personal journey where I could write this book. I first started trying in 2014, but I quickly realized that I still wasn't ready. In 2018, a move to southern Ontario created the perfect space, both physically and mentally, to take it back up and create FINDING OUR NICHE.
