Gail Gazelle, MD I'm currently working on a book about physician burnout, another major epidemic that's going on, and puts all our health at risk. While physicians tend to blame the electronic health record and the pressure to see more patients in less time, I believe that there are unseen mental patterns that also fuel the loss of compassion and sense of meaning many physicians are struggling with. Having coached hundreds of physicians, I've seen some pretty stark patterns emerge. I've also seen that there are things physicians can learn that can make them more resilient to all the demands and pressures. Sadly, these are not covered in our years of training yet they are not difficult to learn. I want to shed light on these, so that physicians can truly thrive in their work.
Gail Gazelle, MD It's so much fun to find words for things that lie deep within us. That's what I love about being a writer.
Gail Gazelle, MD I have never met an author who did not struggle with writer's block. It's just part of the package. I try to push myself to write every single day, as if it's my paying job. That way I make progress over time.

I also have a practice to avoid the trap of perfectionism, one we can all fall prey to. I try to write something, anything. We can always go back and make edits.
