Ed Meek Gatsby and Daisy. I like the way they mirror Scott and Zelda.
Ed Meek With poetry it is usually a phrase or an idea that prompts me like: "He was so old his bones seems to swim in his skin." Or the idea of "dark matter" or a quote by an artist about painting like" "Silence is so accurate," Mark Rothko. I like to go to museums to get ideas from art. For fiction it is some story from the news or my own experience that piques my interest. A recent story is about Snuggle Bunnies. Articles can be about anything from education to cycling in the city to book reviews about books I like.
Ed Meek I'm trying to promote the book that just came out, Spy Pond. I'm working on new poems and what is shaping into the next book of poems. I have a short story manuscript that is being considered by a couple of publishers. I have a YA baseball novel that I am still tinkering with. And I'm working on a few articles.
Ed Meek You really have to like the activity and process of writing because you just never know if what you're working on will go anywhere.
Ed Meek Well I think everyone has artistic or aesthetic impulses. We all enjoy being creative and it's enjoyable to create something that you like and can share with other people. It is also rewarding when people respond positively whether it's through liking what you write or having something published or reviewed.
Ed Meek I don't really get writer's block, but I don't necessarily write all the time either. I write in spurts or clusters, so I try to take advantage of that and run with an idea when I get it. I jot down notes or make notes on my iPad and then develop them.
