Charles Bruce McIntyre Perhaps another memoir. There were ten years after cancer and my retirement and before COVID when I had a very active life. There are stories and lessons in those years to be shared.
Charles Bruce McIntyre I'm not sure where inspiration comes from, but I don't think it comes from talking––it comes from listening. The sounds carry the message, whether they're the sounds of the city, of the deep woods (in our heart and mind), or around the dinner table with friends. Just listen, the inspiration will follow.
Charles Bruce McIntyre I think the best thing about writing is the opportunity to observe. To look up, down, and all around. To look out at the world and in on ourself. It's about curiosity because, as Ellen Parr said, "The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity."
Charles Bruce McIntyre I write every day. Maybe a few words, maybe more. They can be in a notebook or on scraps of paper––but they are words. If they don't come, that's fine. I go for a walk. Fresh air helps.
Charles Bruce McIntyre My advice is the same as others have given me––write. Just get it down. The re-writing comes after the finish, not before.
Charles Bruce McIntyre It's a story I have wanted to tell for over ten years. Pen to paper is best, so now it's available to the world.
