Ooh, interesting question, thank you. You reminded me of something that happened many years ago when I was a young newlywed. One day I started receiving phone calls from a distraught woman, who claimed that my husband was the father of her child. She called for several days and then a man claiming to be her father started calling. My husband vehemently denied that it was true and I trusted him wholeheartedly. Eventually, the calls stopped. I'll never know what really happened. Perhaps it was a scam. Or it could have been a case of mistaken identity. And of course, I must admit to the slim possibility that she was telling the truth (although I doubt it). At any rate, my first husband passed away many years ago, so I'll never know, but the whole scenario certainly raises many plot possibilities.

The characters in the Masters of the Storm series just wouldn't let me be. The second, third and fourth books take place about eighteen years after the first, and the last two continue the story about sixteen years after the fourth. I just needed to finish telling everyone's story before I could conclude the series.

I think about my characters when I lie down to sleep. I am a very restless sleeper, so the dialogue and questions I thought about roll around in my head and I usually have something I want to put down on paper by morning. I find dog walks are good times to mull things over, as well. The longer I think about the dialogue, the more compelled I am to pour a cup of coffee, put on some music and start typing.

Bringing stories to life that can entertain people is awesome. My first husband was very ill before he died, and the things such as television, books and movies that were able to take him away from the pain and the worry are things I now cherish. I don't think we can overstate the importance of that in people's lives, and when someone tells me that they enjoyed something I wrote, it makes it all worthwhile.

When I get blocked, I get up every morning and read what leads up to the block. Sometimes, simply editing what's there is enough, other times, I continue to play the action and conversations in my head through the day (and night) until I am able to get back to it. On the rare occasion, I write through it, although it's more of an outline and snippets of conversation than actual book text. Then I go back later on and fill it in.

I am currently working on the fourth, fifth and sixth books in the Masters of the Storm series. Book IV is almost finished with final edits. Book V is written, but very early in the editing stage, and I am about 10,000 words into book VI (the planned final book in the series).
