Miriam Bibby The whole "Mistress Meg" series is inspired by my interest in history, and in this case my interests in Tudor rogue literature and the history of magic. Those subjects, along with my principal interest in the history and archaeology of the horse, are the elements that I combine and recombine within the series.
Miriam Bibby My inspiration is partly due to an idea that I find so compelling that I really want to write it down, and partly from to the knowledge, which comes from experience, that books don't write themselves. You simply have to sit down and get on with writing, every day, at every opportunity.
Miriam Bibby I'm working on the third in the "Mistress Meg and the Elizabethan Rogues" series, and also quite a few academic projects.
Miriam Bibby It's hard to choose just one of the three things that I think are best about being a writer. If you are a historian, doing the research is a great pleasure. I love searching for relevant books and sitting down with a stack of them next to me. The second thing, and it's equally important, is happy readers. If someone says "I found it hard to put down" then I know I've succeeded. And thirdly, the characters themselves. I like it when they do something that surprises me, and that happens quite a lot.
