He felt it then, the warmth flowing out of him and into the emptiness, and there was no mistaking it carried his life with it. The partially muffled sounds of teeth and tongues accompanying the dull ache within his chest might as well be the ticking of a metronome as he was consumed by the folly of his decisions.

Read. Write. Read some more. Write some more. Writing is a process that evolves over time and with practice. Don't throw away your old ideas; do reinvent them as your style progresses. Inspiration can be hard to find so start with the mundane things of everyday life. The toaster's view of the kitchen. The silent adoration of a music fan listening to their MP3s on the bus. Read. Write. Discover your voices. Explore them all.

Sharing stories that matter. It's always been a concern of mine that most stories don't really connect with reality. As a whole, we love fantasies and prefer to suspend disbelief than read about the real. The real matters though, and if the only stories that linger are highlights without context then we've misled ourselves and our fellow readers.

I have a drafts folder that, at this moment, has about 400 stories in progress. Writer's block for me is more about getting stuck on a character or storyline, and the best way forward is to go write about something else until I stumble across a way to move things forward or have a flash of inspiration that guides the first storyline along.
Between promotion, website work, and the usual daily grind, I worry less about writer's block and more about just not having time to write.
