(view spoiler)[I have an outline for my entire series and I knew I wanted book four to be about outsiders trying to readjust to a new life. I introduced these characters called "experiments" in the second and third book. Experiments are shape shifters who have been abused and exploited, turned into living weapons. They're emotionless, focused only on strategy and self-preservation, and dangerous. Experiments are, above all, dangerous.
Originally, I envisioned the story as a kind of exploration into the minds of experiments and how they perceive the world of the "normals" (what they call non-experiments). However, when I was editing "Keres," I experienced a very significant loss. There's a tragedy that happens fairly early in the novel and after my own personal loss, "Keres" became an exploration of grief and how it affects us. Every character is haunted by something in this novel, but I think the grief is the most vivid aspect in this particular book. (hide spoiler)]

I've always loved fantasy and mythology, but I could never find characters I could identify with. I wanted strong kickass women who went on quests like the boys did. I wanted adoptees whose stories didn't revolve solely on their biological family. No one was writing those sorts of stories, so I decided I would. I'd write for the strong independent women, the feminists, who wanted fantasy stories with equally strong empowered women protagonists. Years later, here I am. Still writing kickass women, feminists, and I'm not slowing down.

I'm currently working on my series, "The Shape Shifter Chronicles." I'm currently working on marketing the fourth book, "Haunted by the Keres." In the next month or so, I'll probably start outlining book five.
Eventually, I plan to work on some spin-off series with different characters (though they'll inhabit the same universe). That's a ways off though.

Be very, very sure writing is what you must do. It's not a glamorous life at all. It's like having very hard homework for the rest of your life.
However, if you're sure: then for the love of all things, write. Write and never stop. Commit everything to paper (or computer screen). Show us new worlds, new characters, new views. Be amazing and creative.

For me, it's the feeling of being alive. Committing the vivid world in your head onto paper is the closest thing to magic one can experience.
Also there's a certain catharsis to writing. There's a certain truth to that famous saying, "Careful or you'll end up in my novel."

I usually have a number of side projects I work on aside from the "main project" I'm focused on. When I get stuck, I tinker with one of my smaller side projects and that usually does the trick.
Also, and I cannot recommend this enough, a good cardio workout often does wonders for writers block. Nothing like an intense kickboxing routine to break through a creative brick wall.
