She asked me to wait in the ball room while she spoke to her father. I strolled around, and stopped in front of her portrait from the 19th century.

Just give it time. It will go away. Do not try hard to write. Writing is like a fountain, or spring - if nothing comes out, no amount of forcing will help. Just wait for things to settle down inside your mind and one day, ideas come back. It could take a day, or a week or even three years. But keep looking inside, ask yourself every day, if you're ready. If you are, your heart will know the answer!

Once you've written a couple of books and dealt with a dozen characters or more, you start seeing the world through the eyes of the people around you. Because you've trained yourself to write as a character x or y or what he or she would do when a or b happens, it's inevitable that you start seeing all human beings (and places) around you as characters. And it's easier to be a good listener when you're a writer, since you want to find out more, always.

I got the idea of Rogue from a story I had heard about a 14-year-old who got accused in a murder case in the 1980s. There used to be stories about him being troublesome but nobody expected him to go down that path. His story fascinated me when I heard it first. That's how I ended up writing 'Rogue' - the story of a teenage gangster.
