I'm sorry, but I don't do horror. I guess that's a horrible answer, but it's the best I can do.

I'm not a big fan of sci-fi or fantasy so I don't have a hankering for a future or fantasy world. I love history, but I'm also fond of indoor plumbing, so I don't yearn for ancient days. I'd probably visit the early 1900s when new inventions were happening almost daily and new opportunities were opening for more people. I love the stories where fictional characters meet the real world-changers of a bygone era.

I am currently doing research for my next novel with a working title of The Marital Scandal. I'll be reading an old book by Oklahoma historian Angie Debo titled The Road to Disappearance. It's a history of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

Since I write about western history, I immediately thought of the mystery of Bass Reeves' gravesite. Bass Reeves was one of the greatest deputy marshals to serve on the western frontier, particularly Indian Territory. He lived the last 16 years of his life in Muskogee and that is where he was buried when he died in 1910. But today no one knows the exact location of his grave. Why is that? Where is his body located? The life, death and burial of Bass Reeves would be a great plot. I have written about Bass Reeves in my book Life Along the Rivers. All my books cover Indian Territory history.

(view spoiler)[Choosing a favorite fictional couple is difficult for me. I'm not usually one to pick favorites. I can say that I like couples that share a deep love for one another, are completely devoted to the other's happiness and share a truth faith and a sense of humor.
I try to instill that in my own fictional characters and hope that I succeeded with Clarissa and Marcus, the two main characters in my "Missions of Indian Territory" trilogy.

When I'm blocked I take a walk or pick up my cross stitch or grab my camera. Even while I'm working at something else, I'm still writing in the back of my mind. I can come back to the computer with a new idea or fresh approach. But sometimes I just have to move on to something else, sleep on it, and come back fresh in the morning.

When writing a novel, you take the journey with your characters. Even with a detailed outline, you don't know how it is all going to turn out. It's an adventure.

I am currently writing the sequel to Journey to an Untamed Land. It continues the story of Clarissa Johnson teaching at the first mission in Indian Territory (today Oklahoma). Oklahoma's history is steeped in the culture of the American Indian and I try to be sensitive and authentic in telling it.

I was conducting research for a speech I was to give on prominent women of Oklahoma. I found information on the first schoolteacher and thought her amazing story needed to be told.
