I started making up stories as a child and when I was in the first grade I entered a writing contest at my school. For some reason it was from 1st-8th grade and I ended up winning (I won a small stuff clown doll!) and from then on I started writing stories. When I was getting ready to graduate from high school, my mom signed me up for some writing conferences that summer so I began to take it seriously. :)

Take literature classes to learn from the masters before jumping into a creative writing class. Once you've taken a few writing courses you can start going to conferences and workshops and then look for a critique group. And the number one thing you will hear at all conferences, workshops, and classes is that if you want to be a writer, you must read, read, read!
