Alison Ragsdale So many! Next is Everything You Are, by Kerry Anne King, then Night of Miracles by Elizabeth Berg, Where Rivers Part, by Kellie Coates Gilbert, In the Light of the Garden, by Heather Burch, Matchmaking for Beginners, by Maddie Dawson...the list goes on and on.
Alison Ragsdale The ability to spend time, every day, crafting storylines that feel relatable. I've always loved to read and in becoming an author my main objective was to reach people - to write about real-life scenarios that make readers nod their heads in recognition. When I learn that has happened for someone - that is the best part of the process for me.
Alison Ragsdale Hi Liz,
It's always difficult to make comparisons, but let's just say there are many authors whom I'd be delighted to be compared to. The subject matter of Finding Heather might be considered similar to Elizabeth Berg's novel, The Year of Pleasures, dealing with a young widow rebuilding her life after losing her husband and the journey of self discovery that results.

As regards my inspirations, without doubt Mary Wesley, Joanna Trollope, Lily Prior, Rosamunde Pilcher and Elizabeth Berg are among the many authors I admire.

Thanks for your questions!
Alison.
Alison Ragsdale I'm working on another literary fiction novel, that follows a young widow who tries to go home, to the Isle of Skye, after many years living overseas.
Alison Ragsdale I walk away from the manuscript. Sometimes for a couple of weeks and then, usually when I'm doing something completely unrelated to the book, I have an epiphany. Breakthrough!
Alison Ragsdale Just start - get something down on paper and you're off and running. The worst thing you can do is think about it too long, or talk yourself out of diving in. Once you've started - keep reading and writing and network with other writers who can inspire and encourage you.
Alison Ragsdale I literally dreamed up my protagonist. I woke with his name and the outline of his character. Love when that happens!
