It cures everything, the man insisted, as he watched me gulp down the glass of what looked like empty air. Better, he asked, watching me carefully because that spider piss is the best cure-all.

There are two places I would like to travel to: 1. The world of Hobbit before everything went dark. I love the idea of a safe secure world where the most important question was what's for second breakfast. 2. My own world of Mahagiri where the air is fresh, the cows are content and a cup of cardamom tea is waiting for you.

Read. Read. And read some more. Then just buckle down and write!

I try not to look at it as a block. If I can't find something to write about, I do some free flow. But I usually set a goal for myself and just write. I think of it as a job. So I try to write 1,000 words everyday M-F.

I guess the best thing is that my story is read by so many people. It is also the only thing I'm good at...besides a little bit of cooking!

Started with a tribute to my mother and our joint love of cooking. Now I write because I love telling a story!

A sequel to My Mother's Kitchen. This back story will take the reader to the spice plantation and Meena's college years.

The catalyst for My Mother's Kitchen was tragedy. My mother died in 2007 and I always wanted to write a tribute to her. A year later I joined a writing group and the group decided to publish a small magazine featuring work by members of the group. So I decided to do a piece about my mother and my memories of growing up in her kitchen. It seemed natural to add a recipe at the end of the piece. The piece "Mother's Lemon Rice" was very popular and everyone kept asking me if I was going to write more stories about life in my mother's kitchen. The first piece was auto-biographical but I changed the focus of book from myself to fiction. "My Mother's Kitchen" was easy to write and I finished it less than a year.
