My journey of writing 100,000 words in 2018
I have been writing for the past 4 years now on pretty much everything – business articles for my blogs and other startups, covering some of the best startups in India, articles on spirituality, short stories etc.
There was never a goal in writing until last year, I was writing because I wanted to write, something. After reading 100+ books in 2016 and 2017, I wanted to spend most of the time in 2018, writing.
I started a novel(my third attempt, first was in 2009 and the other was in 2012) in 2016 and left after writing ten thousand words, I felt my characters have still not evolved as I want them to be. I needed time to help them grow. The writing stopped then but characters were in making every day till January 5 last year when I resumed my project.
When the book finished in the month of August, I was more than happy how it shaped up. I was amazed to see the word count – 90,000 words. The book titled – The Unfortunates is looking for publishers since then.
The real life of the book starts once it is completed, getting a publisher (parents) and then marketing (raising it). I am not sure about the end and I am not bothered about it. All good piece of work finds a parent sooner or later.
In the last quarter of 2018, I wanted to write short stories. I have written only one short story in 2018. I decided to write a collection of short stories and my goal of 100,000 words for 2018. The right time never came and I was in the last 10 days of December.
Again, even though I was not writing, the stories were being worked upon. The characters were thought about on days when I was not doing anything, the situations were being looked upon every minute I was on a vacation.
When I actually sat down to write, I just had to pen down my ideas and stories. Ten stories were finished by 26 December 2018 with 100,000+ words in total for 2018 to my satisfaction. The next four days went in editing the stories. I usually like to go through my write up again and again. On 31st December – WonderingAlma: Collection of short stories 2019 was published on Kindle and is available for all.
New Year, 2019, started on a good note. Let's see where the journey ends this year.
Read and write a lot.
