Tough one as most fantasy worlds face some kind of impending doom, which doesn't make for particularly safe destinations.

In sc-fi, I'd take the expanse's universe, the novels take place at an interesting stage in mankind venture into the stars (I'Ve only read 3 so far though, don't know if I'd stick with that opinion after that). Going out there in a spaceship to explore the unknown would be what I'd be after.

If we're talking fantasy, definitely not Westeros! With my legendary lack of tact, it'd be a matter of time before Cersei would have me killed... It's not my favorite fantasy world, not by far, but I'd go for Hary Potter's world. Training as a wizard is a lot less dreary than most magic users in other fantasy worlds and I could spend my days seeking magical creatures to observe after graduating!(less)

I think I may have come upon a Sword of Truth a tad too late (I think I was about 26-27 when a friend lent it to me, I gave up after the third or fourth I think). I remember Drizzt and Dragonlance fondly (more as popcorn fare fantasy), but they're still what got me going (along with King's The Talisman, and several Koontz novels at that time). Wheel of Time was what launched me into more expansive fantasy though. :P

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a pleasure discussing books!

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller Thanks for the friend request. :) Drizzt and Dragonlance were definitely staples in my teen years - such a great foundation for a fantasy obsession haha. I'll forgive you Sword of Truth, especially because I can concede that Richard is a tad whiny and Goodkind repeats EVERYTHING multiple times. But I still remember how much I loved it (and Kahlan) when I first read it. I'm looking forward to talking good books going forward. :)
