Having grown up in rural North Carolina, I earned a B.A. in Modern European history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I also studied Russian language and literature. My Ph.D. is in Russian and Soviet History from Indiana University Bloomington, where I studied with Alexander Rabinowitch. I have carried out archival research in Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. I teach at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

These were published serially on SocialistWorker.org and on John Riddell's blog. There was interest in publishing the leaflets in book form, so I translated other documents about organizing workers' militias and trade unions and compiled these into a book.(less)

I do not lack interest in these groups, but I am a historian whose workload includes a great deal of teaching, so I spend my time mainly preparing university courses and writing up my historical research, plus translating historical documents. I have attended a few socialist conferences in Chicago, NYC, and London. The panels were interesting.(less)
