Now in her 80s, Janet saw a movie called Finding Joe, about Joseph Campbell's myth of the hero's journey and how it applies to ordinary people. It made sense out of so many things in her own life that it inspired her to write her autobiography from that perspective. She wanted to tell her story about how she learned to master her fears and create a fulfilling life with few regrets, in hopes of inspiring others, especially women.

Janet Maker's previous book, The Thinking Woman's Guide to Breast Cancer, describes her experience with breast cancer treatment in 2011.
