Staying In My Lane

Some days this writing gig is awesome. I get to work in my pajamas in the comfort of my own home. I'm my own boss. If I need to take a work trip to Target no one throws around words like 'on the clock' or 'fired'. Other days it sort of sucks. Usually it's days where I look at the guy driving beside me. Those are the days where I wonder why he's getting where he's going faster than I am. Is his car nicer than mine? Is he a better driver? Is his road smoother than mine? It's disheartening to...

The Good, The Bad, and The Time Consuming

Sometimes you come up with what you think is a great idea. Sometimes you're right. Sometimes you're wrong. Sometimes you're both. This is one of those times. Last year I wrote a biker romance (Tracking Numbers) to place in an anthology I thought would do well. It did not, but that's another story. All wasn't lost though, because I still ended up with the first book in what's planned to be an eleven book series. Now the anthology is over, and I can publish Tracking Numbers myself. But... I...

Winter makes me SAD

It is officially winter here in southwest Ohio. And it officially sucks. I don't actually hate cold weather. Or snow. Or ice. What I do hate is the grey. And the older I get, the more I hate it. Maybe hate is the wrong word. The older I get, the more it AFFECTS me. Big time. Last winter I felt like I was losing my mind. I was angry and aggressive and miserable and had no clue why. I hated my house. I wanted to burn it to the ground. Not kidding. It took me longer than I care to admit to...

Top 10 Reasons Writing Romance is HARD

Writing romance is hard.  I know, I know. Everyone thinks we romance writers just fart and happily ever afters fall from the sky. They think that because we are able to produce a pretty good number of books that it must be easy (or sub-par work but we'll just go with easy so I don't run off on an angry tangent). So, for everyone we've fooled into thinking it's easy to write romance, I've compiled a list of the top 10 reasons writing romance is hard. Number 10:

Drowning in Summer

This summer is kicking my ass. Between weddings, my husband's work travels, home improvement projects (not to mention the day to day of keeping all our animals and plants alive), and three kids, I'm barely treading water. Good thing swimming is a great workout. I need something to offset the batch of cookies Ibakedate. Currently Mr. Whiteaker is on his last big trip of the summer. It's a little bit of a calm before we are crazy busy again hosting a birthday party for my mom, a long weekend
