My wish list
I would love to be able to distribute these books along with a stuffed animal and a set of plastic diabetes ware – the child can then become familiar with the items, play with them, give shots to their stuffed friend, put the pump and sensor on them, etc. Once I’ve got the book itself finished and available I will be looking for help in producing and distributing these things with it.
Additionally I’ve developed a game (Insulinopoly) which covers the major areas of knowledge in diabetes self care well, but in a fun way.
I would like to do a version for each pump (showing features of pump that are different – for example CGMS integration) but so far have been unable to convince the pump companies (or Dexcom) to aid me in this work. Any ideas along this line would be appreciated.

Education, understanding and comfort with type 1 diabetes.
I am writing books for children where I am trying to teach them in ways they can learn and present them as many options as I can to make their life more enjoyable and possible.

I’ve written these book to help children diagnosed with type 1 learn the “basics” of their new life. It begins with the child’s diagnosis, gives simple explanations of what type 1 diabetes is (Sugar can’t get into a cell without insulin, which acts like a key in a lock) and then proceeds to show meters, pumps and CGMS sensors (and why we use them). My aim is to familiarize the child with the hardware and issues that he will be living with, but NOT to be a medical book. I am NOT working with dosing or carb counting or other specific medical issues (as these must be handled by the medical team as well as the age of the child) but try to explain in simple terms why amounts and types of food are important to their health.
