Jeremy is one of the UK’s most experienced television newsmen, with more than 40 years in the business. He presented Sky’s main evening news for 18 years until his retirement at the end of 2016, often anchoring programmes on location – anywhere from war zones to natural disasters, big elections to major crime scenes.
In 2015 he presented Sky News live from the streets of Paris on the Charlie Hebdo attack and the multiple terror attacks on the city. He reported live from Brussels in the aftermath of another series of terror attacks. He ended 2016 covering the dramatic election of Donald Trump as US President. It was Jeremy’s 6th US Election, dating back to Bill Clinton in the 90s. In recent years, he’s been back to his old stomping ground of South Africa to cover the death of Nelson Mandela and the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius. Jeremy has been involved in many of Sky News’ biggest live news events, anchoring both from the studio and out in the field. They include the Liberation of Kosovo in 1999, the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the Soham murders, the second Gulf War in 2003, the Madrid Train Bombing, the Indian Ocean Tsunami, the Israel-Lebanon Conflict, the 7/7 bombings in London and the death of Pope John Paul II. In 2007 Jeremy presented live coverage from Praia de Luz in the days following the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. In 2008 he covered the Beijing Olympics – his 5th Olympic Games. Jeremy has reported on British elections dating back to Margaret Thatcher’s first ballot victory in 1979. In 1997 he followed Tony Blair’s campaign to become PM. In 2010 he anchored coverage of Sky News’ historic leaders’ debate in Bristol and reported live from Downing Street as Gordon Brown announced his resignation as PM in 2010. He was part of the International Emmy Award-winning team for Sky News' special programme, Pakistan: Terror's Frontline. In 2011, Jeremy anchored from Pakistan following the death of Osama bin Laden, presented live on the ground in Tripoli during the uprisings in Libya, and was one of the first journalists given permission by the Syrian Government to report from Damascus during the current civil conflict.
Before taking up his presenter’s role, Jeremy was a TV correspondent for Sky News, ITN and the BBC, covering many of the major news of our time. He’s reported from more than 100 countries and run foreign bureaux in Asia, Africa and the USA.
Among the awards received for his work are two Emmys from the US Academy of TV Arts and Sciences, three Gold Medals for Best News Reporter from the New York TV Festival, and the Royal Television Society award for Sky’s coverage of the Kosovo conflict. He was named RTS Presenter of the Year in 2006 and in 2016 his programme Live at Five won RTS News Programme of the Year.
As a foreign correspondent, Jeremy has covered more than twenty wars and civil conflicts. In 1989 he reported on the student uprising in Tiananmen Square. A decade later, he was the first TV newsman to broadcast live as British peacekeeping forces rolled into Kosovo. He covered the First Gulf War in 1990/91 and in 2003 he anchored Sky News’ coverage of the second Gulf War from Iraq and was the first tv newsman to present from inside Baghdad. In South Africa, he covered the last years of apartheid and Mandela’s extraordinary journey from prisoner to the Presidency. Also in Africa, he reported on the genocide in Rwanda and civil conflicts in Somalia, Sudan, Angola, Mozambique and Sierra Leone.
At the end of 2016, Jeremy retired from Sky News after 23 years helping to build the channel’s global brand and after 50 years in journalism from local papers to network TV news.

Being a first-time author

I've spent 50 years working as a journalist - in newspapers, radio and TV news.
But I've never written a book before.
So it's been a hugely exciting challenge putting my career in perspective and remembering some of the extraordinary stories I've covered over a half a century.
