A former diplomat with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1986 - 1991 working in the News Department and in Sir Geoffrey Howe's Private Office and then posted for three years to the British Embassy in Sana'a, the former Yemen Arab Republic as the radio communications officer and assistant visa officer.
She graduated from Durham University with a B.A. (Hons) in Arabic with Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and spent the second year studying Arabic and freelancing as a journalist in Syria and Lebanon.
She later worked as an Executive P.A. to the President and Chief Executive Officer at Gulf Marine and Maintenance Offshore Services and then the Business Development Manager of Wellington Capital Ltd.
