Behind the Book: Heather Camacho

What’s the book about?
Kevin Sloan is a bad boy who thinks he has the answer to his bleak future, and Sarah Stevenson is the beautiful good girl that Kevin never saw coming. When their paths cross and temptations complicate everything they used to know, they’re forced to decide if the love they never thought they’d have is worth risking everything to keep.

What was your inspiration for From Graves to Gardens?
I had a dream about the boy who turned out to be Kevin. He came downstairs (of course the logistics of the dreamscape made zero sense) and broke down. He was scared to say anything but I got it out of him that he needed help, and I was determined to provide it.

What is the significance of graves and gardens for this book?
Great question! The Biblical idea of God turning graves into gardens is about Him taking what’s dead and bringing it back to life. We see that exact thing happen many times throughout scripture, literally and figuratively, and it directly relates to a very important lesson that Kevin needs to learn. In a very real sense, not having Jesus in your heart is like being dead, but once you’ve accepted Him, you’re alive in a brand new way. It’s pretty awesome! One could even consider it from a completely standpoint: Kevin was dead inside until love livened him up in a way he never expected!

Did you model Sarah or Kevin after anyone in real life?
Nope, they were completely organic creations.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Finding that magical FLOW is the best part. When things just pour out onto the page without effort. You know, when I have so much to put down and none of it needs fixing because it comes out perfectly, and then I finally look up from the screen and notice it got dark out. THAT kinda flow. I wish it was easier for me to tap into.

What’s been your biggest hurdle?
Not finding that flow, haha. Either that, or learning my way through the writing-to-publishing process. I’ve made a lot of mistakes since I started and all I can say is Thank God it’ll be easier for the next book! OR, as one of my stellar editors would agree, it is constantly second guessing my work or business decisions. I’m getting better!

What do you hope people will get out of your story?
A brand new love for Jesus or just a pleasant reminder that when He’s number one in our lives, amazing things happen. And, of course, I just hope they adore Kevin and Sarah’s sweet love as much as I do 🙂

The Well Versed Writers Retreat

I hosted my first ever writers retreat this past weekend and let me tell you… it restored my soul and my heart and I managed to write a little bit as well!

Anxiety is no stranger to me, so I knew I would be a little anxious about hosting these ladies I had never met, but I promise you it was like we had been friends for years, not minutes. They were sweet and sassy – just like me.

Of the eight women in attendance, I was so thrilled to find that most of us were active in a faith journey. And half of us were adoptive mothers. That was truly a God thing there!

Ladies flew in from Oklahoma, Indiana, and Maryland. Or they drove from Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina. I was incredibly humbled that they joined me for this amazing long weekend.

I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Book Launch: Amaya

My 8th book launches today and I am still in awe that I get to do this for a living! I love bringing these stories to life.
Amaya is Book #9 in the Always a Bridesmaid multi-author series and the third in my Savannah Sweethearts series. If you recall my book Alonso, that was the first to launch last year as part of a multi-author series. I added Ashley & Tyrell (which technically comes first) to create a rounded series of three books.
Once these stories are clear from obligations from series work, I will be putting them into a 3-in-1 book!

About Amaya: (buy her here!)

Free-spirited bridesmaid-for-hire Amaya loves living in Savannah and helping brides realize their dreams for their big day. So what if toothless uncles and sweaty groomsmen hit on her constantly? That was all in a day’s work for a professional bridesmaid.
When the new owner of her favorite wedding venue saves her from one such groomsman’s attention, Amaya thinks he might just be her own knight in shining armor.

Orlando returned to Savannah with a single goal – to sell the property his mother was giving him even if it’s been in the family for generations. He’s a businessman, not an event coordinator.
He doesn’t date people he works with and while the gorgeous bridesmaid who frequents the place doesn’t work for him, it’s close enough. But the more he gets to know her, the more his ideas begin to shift. Maybe he likes the relaxed atmosphere and the wedding business a little more than he thought.

With the city as a backdrop, Amaya and Orlando begin to question the status quo in their lives and discover what love truly is.

1 – What made you want to write?
A. I’ve always loved writing and penned my first little short story when I was aged 13. I used an old school textbook to write a teenage love story. I went on to fail my English exams because I wrote too much. A required 2-page story turned into a 30-page story!
I wrote some poetry and a few more short stories but my first novel was born in 2020 after meeting and being inspired by author, Jojo Moyes.

2 – Do you feel a connection with your characters? Which one(s)?
A: The secondary character in my trilogy – Sarah. I can relate to her the most and feel a connection because of the ordeals that we have been through. Although fictional, I have put a lot of myself into this character to the point someone asked me if Sarah was me!

3 – What message do you hope your readers pick up in your books?
A: My books are emotional but relatable and I hope that readers will connect with the stories and the characters, making them feel like they have friends instead of just a fictional story. I want to make readers feel the book, that will stay with them long after putting it down.

4 – What’s next for you?
A: My 4th novel came out in February 2023 and my daughter begged me to not let the characters die so I’m now hoping inspiration will come for a second book for this set of characters.
My ultimate dream is to have a Netflix series with my trilogy especially – or a Hollywood movie deal would suffice!

Meet the Author: Andie Young

Andie is one of my editing clients and I just adore her! She’s a veteran of the USAF and mom to a beautiful teenage daughter. Her new book, The Journey Home, was just released last week. While it can stand alone, it is a sequel to her first book, A Heart’s Journey. I think everyone will love these heartwarming stories!
Be sure to read the Q & A I did with her below!

Visit Andie’s WebpageQ: What made you want to write?
A: I had never aspired to be a writer like most authors. My prior experience with writing was academically. One day this story popped into my head and wouldn’t leave me alone. I had to get it out so I started writing. That story turned into A Heart’s Journey, which debuted in 2022.

Q: Do you feel a connection with your characters? Which one(s)?
A: Genny is at the top of the list. Her growth throughout the two books is remarkable.

Q: What message do you hope your readers pick up in your books?
A: Though the characters are fictional, the storylines are not. As a therapist, I write about tough, real-life experiences. My wish is that readers who have experienced difficult situations come away with a sense of hope. And for those who have friends or loved ones who have experienced those difficult situations, understanding.

Q: What’s next for you?
A: I have two standalone books in the works. Phoebe’s Garden is about a woman who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Her family struggles with her decision regarding treatment. Phoebe prays that she will reconcile with her estranged daughter before it’s too late. In The Knitting Club, three women from different backgrounds meet in the yarn aisle of a craft store. They find healing through spending time together knitting.

ReBranding

One of the things all businesses – authors included – try to do is streamline things. For years my website has been allisonwellswrites.com because just my name took you to a wellness coach. And while that’s great for her, it’s not so great for me as an author brand.

I am also very active on social media and struggled with different usernames, then similar names, etc. I settled on whatallisonsaid because it sounded good and used my first name. Then I realized days after I made the change that I WRITE and incorporating that would have made so much more sense. But I had just changed my socials, so I left it alone.

Fast forward to today, when I was in an author marketing class by Doreen McGettigan and I realized I needed to make some changes, starting with my branding.
So from here on out, just about EVERTYTHING is whatallisonwrote. My website, facebook, instagram, etc have all been changed! I might even make a snappy logo for it.

Be on the lookout for some cool new features here and on my socials! Until next time!

The Next Novella!

Meet Ashley & Tyrell! They (and their story) are my upcoming novella that will release on November 15th!

When Ashley Gloss hears his voice for the first time in ten years, all those old feelings come rushing back. Tyrell Harris was the love of her life until her parents and their snobbery broke them apart. A decade older, Ashley decides she won’t let them dictate her life anymore – but when she discovers that Tyrell comes as a package deal with twin daughters, is it more than she bargained for?

If you recognize their names – yes, they were featured in Alonso’s story this summer. I can’t wait for you to meet them! Exclusively on Amazon & KU!
