How often have you been in a conversation with someone and thought of something better you wished you'd said later? If I don't feel I've communicated what I want to say as well as I could in nonfiction, or conveyed a character's layers and their situation in fiction, I get to revise until I'm satisfied with what's on the page. Writing is awesome!(less)

“Without regular conversations with you in a safe environment, an issue with a classmate or the teacher may not become apparent until your child starts mouthing off to adults or hitting other kids. Worse, hurt feelings can cause silent maladies, such as withdrawal from social situations and a loss of confidence.”
Patricia Wilkinson, Brain Stages: How to Raise Smart, Confident Kids and Have Fun Doing It, K-5

“The warrior learns of the spiritual realm by dwelling on the cutting edge of the sword, standing at the edge of the fire pit, venturing right up to the edge of starvation if necessary. Vibrant and intense living is the warrior's form of worship.”
Stephen K. Hayes

“Flow with whatever may happen, and let your mind be free: Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate.”
Zhuangzi

“Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it.”
Bruce Lee, Tao of Jeet Kune Do

“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.”
Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

“Your power to choose can never be taken from you. It can be neglected and it can be ignored. But if used, it can make all the difference.”
Steve Goodier
