The task was to create an illustrated children's book that …more'The Silver Tabby,' was originally an old high school English assignment, titled 'Silver.' The task was to create an illustrated children's book that portrayed an underlying moral lesson to pass on to young children through the art of literature. I enjoyed reading A. A. Milne's 'Winnie the Pooh' books and Beatrix Potter's books as a child, and wanted to tell a story using animals as they had done.

The inspiration for the main character, Silver, came from the silver tabby cat I had when I started writing the book - also named Silver. I am realising now that naming my silver tabby, Silver, wasn't the most creative idea I have ever had. I may as well have named my cat, Cat. However, I can say now that Silver's name in the book suits the story well with the creative portrayal of symbolism. (less)
