I'm a slow reader, so my reading list may not look too ambitious. But I hope to enjoy at least these three books:
Craig Childs' Tracing Time about rock art on the Colorado Plateau because rock art made by long-ago residents fascinates me.
Scott Graham's Canyonlands Carnage because it has everything I like in a book—national parks, mystery, and archaeology.
And I'm really looking forward to spending time with Anne Hillerman's most recent novel, The Sacred Bridge, because, well, it's a Hillerman book so I know it is good, and I like to follow the Bernadette Manuelito character as she progresses in her career with the Navajo Nation Police Department.

They are documenting an abandoned homestead in northwest New Mexico. Millie learns two murders have occurred at the site, nearly a hundred years apart. Again, Millie's quick mind and knowledge of plant ecology helps to shed light on both grisly crimes. Readers of The Cactus Plot will recognize some favorite characters and meet some surprising new ones.(less)

“Know what I miss most of all? I miss the silence. Turn off the engine, and if you’re not anywhere near a compressor station, just listen. Listen to nothing. Most people don’t even know what it’s like to be in real quiet.”
Vicky Ramakka, The Cactus Plot: Murder in the High Desert

“Older women have the experience and maturity to offer the greatest service and skills to society of any segment of our population. They are at the peak of their promise. …Since we are the natural care-takers in this world, I feel the greatest good that women can do is help the environmental movement.” Anne LaBastille, Woodswoman III”
