“My imagination was clearly on overdrive today. Maybe I should switch to reading nonfiction for a few days.”
Hanna Sandvig, The Rose Gate

“Some things aren’t forgivable. I’ve done my best to be a good prince in the time since, to take care of those who remain, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to what I’ve done. There’s no atoning for it.”

For what?! I railed internally, but as chatty as he was today, I didn’t think he’d tell me. And that wasn’t really the point here.

“Not forgivable by them? I’m not sure I agree, but what about by God, is he allowed to forgive you?”

Leith walked beside me in silence again. Maybe I’d pushed him too far.

“Or whatever you believe in?” I asked. Did the Fae have religions?

“If God is just and wise, then he will not forgive me either,” said Leith.

And what about you? I thought, Will you ever forgive yourself? But I didn’t say the words out loud. I already knew the answer.”
Hanna Sandvig, The Rose Gate

“Is there another way to break the curse?” I poked him in the chest with an accusing finger. “What are you not telling me?”

“Isobel.” He caught my hand with his wet fingers. “Do you trust me?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Of course I do, with my life. But I’m not sure I trust you with your own. Tell me you’re not risking it when there’s another way to save Kilinaire.”
Hanna Sandvig, The Rose Gate
