It has revealed to me how far and wide this elusive skill is needed. I have seen how those who are hurting the most are more and more isolated as the people around them are ill equipped to know how to help them. It’s not that they don’t want to help, they simply don’t know what to say or do. Awkwardness taking over and afraid they will say the wrong thing, many do nothing at all. It’s a cycle that has to stop. This work led to uncovering that comfort is a skill that can be re-learned, and I say re-learned because we are all born comforters. Just like dogs. But our world is changing, and our human care skills are becoming woefully underdeveloped as our screens replace being present with each other. At Inspiring Comfort, we set out to mend this disconnection. After touching tens of thousands of lives with our programs and barely making a dent, the idea for this book was born. We are all needed to bring back this skill and this book is here to help with that.(less)
