Kathleen Vyn has been writing books since she was a child. She wrote two novels when she was eleven years old. In high school, she won writing contests. One of them was first prize at a local radio station. She wrote a humorous essay about teen night clubs.

She worked as news editor for the high school paper and wrote feature articles. She majored in English in college and went on to San Francisco State University for the M.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. There she wrote two children's books, The Prairie Community and Spring in the High Sierras Both were published by Julian Messner, the children's division of Simon & Schuster.
