Hispanic Heritage in American Settings
Born and raised between the border cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, Monárrez grew up in a bilingual and diverse culture. With a passion for the written word, she set out to pursue a career in Fiction writing and graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a BA in Creative Writing and English.

Monárrez considers herself a Mexican-American writer. Her roots and Fiction Crafting training in both countries gave her voice a unique flavor. Her writing aims to deliver stories placed in American settings that echo her Hispanic heritage through diverse themes, unique descriptions, and the use of magical realism.

I treat my …moreThrough the years I've learned that there isn't an ideal time to get inspired to write, so I get my inspiration from rituals and routines. I treat my writing time as I would any 9-5 job: I chose I timeslot to write, change my clothes, get a cup of coffee, and grind through a few hours of writing. This gives me mixed results. Sometimes what I write in these sessions can be really good, but some other times, it's the equivalent as a bad day at the office. The important thing is that there's consistency in my writing and this makes it harder to lose momentum. (less)

What is Science Fiction? It's harder to define than you think

Back when I still left my house to attend writer events, I attended a writer’s conference in Midland, Tx. I was waiting in line for the provided refreshments and a couple of fellow writers were discussing what was Science Fiction and what wasn’t.
