Bree Aguiar was born October 1994 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She is one of many cousins in her large, Portuguese family. Growing up, her best friends were fictional characters. She graduated from Stonehill College in 2016 with a B.A. in Political Science and currently works full time as a risk manager, though writing is her passion. Her favorite genres to read are fantasy, science fiction, horror, and thrillers, but her own work focuses on YA fantasy. Her debut novel, Gatehouse, was released in 2021. Her inspirations can be found in the works of Brandon Sanderson, Sarah J Maas, and Haruki Murakami. Honestly, being a novella killed this one. The characters and suspense could’ve been so built up, making the end pay off! It was a quick read, but I’d like to see the author write a long form horror like this next!

Book so good I actually DM’d the author on Instagram to tell him how much I hated him for making me cry at the end…. Thank god book two is out this week, or I’d throw a fit

This is like if Addie LaRue had an ugly cousin. Less boring, but more nonsensical, with wholly awful characters. I loved bits and pieces of it, but it was not my favorite and NOT spooky enough for me.

My favorite in the series, which is saying a lot. Probably because it has the best protagonist.
