Book six

Tomorrow is release day for book six in my Cold Case Investigation series. Riley and Reese have come a long way over six books. This one finds them at the center of a locked room mystery. Stranded with Reese's high school friends in a half-finished resort, Riley must piece together the cold case murder of one of their classmates, while trying to solve the slaying that just happened. Follow the clues and see if you can figure out whodunit!

Fall Most of All

The leaves are starting to turn and I'm putting the finishing touches on book five in my Cold Case Investigation series. This weekend I'm going to take a break from editing and enjoy autumn in all its glory by going camping with my family. I can't wait to sit by a crackling fire in the crisp night air. Anyone who knows me knows fall is my favorite season. I even got Max Brooks' new book about sasquatches to read, although now I'm getting a little nervous about reading horror while in the woods. He never disappoints though, so I'm sure I'll love it. Maybe I'll even read some passages aloud while we're sitting by the fire. Talk about scary campfire stories!
Enjoy the weekend, where ever you are. And if you pick up a good scary book be sure to recommend it to me. Tis the season!
Happy Fall!

The Murder Book

I'm getting very nervous and excited as February 8th approaches. My second book, the follow up to A Cold Day in Hell, will be released on that day. And I'm also excited to announce that my third book, A Means to An End, will be released September 8th!
I'm going to have a busy year, but an even busier mind, trying to figure out where to take my characters next!
Happy New Year everyone!

Life Imitates Art

In my second book, The Murder Book, a West Highland Terrier comes to live with my protagonist, Lauren Riley. Over the last two or three years my family had gone back and forth about getting a dog. This spring we really weighed the pros and cons. My daughters were older now and ready for the responsibility. I work from home and could be there. Actually, we couldn't think of any cons! So I'm proud to announce we adopted Millie, a beautiful black and white Shih Tzu puppy! I cannot tell you how much love and laughter she has brought into our lives! I'm so glad we did it. And just like Lauren in my book, I don't know what we did without her.

Excuse me now while I take Millie outside to chase some fall leaves.

Book Two

I am very excited to announce that book two of my Cold Case Investigation series is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Murder Book picks up the action a year after A Cold Day in Hell ends. All of your favorite characters come back (and even some of your not-so-favorites). I want to tell you more about it so badly, but I'd end up dropping spoilers everywhere! You'd think I was a writer or something!

Books on Vacation

One of the best things about having your book released in February is that it comes out just in time to be taken along on spring vacations. My wonderful readers have sent me pictures of my book under palm trees, on the beach in Costa Rica, in the airport on the way to the Dominican Republic and at the spa. Who would have thought a book called A Cold Day in Hell would make a great beach read? But if you're trying to get away from the snow and rain, I promise whether you're on vacation or not, A Cold Day in Hell will make you forget the weather outside (unless you're on hot, sunny beach, then you might need a little chill!). Feel free to send me snapshots of my book in the wild, I just might post them on my Facebook page @Lissa Marie Redmond

Enjoy the Cold-even on vacation!

Where did October go?

Fall is my favorite time of year. Hands down. No question. I love the changing of the leaves, the smell of apple pie baking, pumpkin spice everything. As we head toward Thanksgiving I am reminded daily of how much I have to be thankful for. And as the winter approaches it occurs to me that I have to start winterizing my house, making sure everything out by our pool is put away and the warm blankets are washed. Winter is a great time to put the kettle on, snuggle up by the fireplace and curl up with a good book. If you're looking for that perfect story to cozy up with on a cold winter's night, follow this link:

Let me know what you think of her selections. I think I have a favorite, but I may be a little biased. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Bouchercon

A couple of weeks ago I was informed by one of the wonderful volunteers running Bouchercon that I had been given a slot in their 20 on the 20 Spotlight Sessions. For those of you who might not know, Bouchercon is a world mystery convention, held in a different city every year, where writers, readers, publishers, editors, agents, booksellers and, especially, fans of crime and mystery fiction come together for almost a week of panels, classes, book signings and programs.
I’ve been looking forward to attending Bouchercon this year, excited that it’s being held in Toronto, which is right in Buffalo’s backyard. Last I heard, there were over 1,700 people expected to show up this year. Am I nervous about attending? Yes! As a brand new author whose book doesn’t come out until February, I know that I still have a lot to learn about writing and the publishing business. Thankfully, one look at the program they posted online assured me that almost every topic I have questions about are covered. Want to know about Urban Noir? There’s a panel for that! How about Heroes and Anti-Heroes? There’s a panel for that! And now, if you happen to be attending Bouchercon, you can come and listen to me talk about my experiences on the Bike Path Killer Task Force on Thursday, October 12, from 4:40-500 P.M. in the VIP room at the Toronto Sheridan.
Am I nervous about speaking at Bouchercon? Of course. The roster of attending authors reads like a who’s who of the mystery writing world, so I am also humbled and honored. As much as I am an author, I am also a fan of so many of these writers. Hopefully, I can absorb inspiration by just being in the same space as them.
Talking about my real life experiences as a cold case detective and how it affects my writing should be easy for me. And if it’s not, I’ll just go over to Write What You Know on Friday morning. There’s a panel for that!

What kind of books do you read?

I love books. I have always loved books, I love the way they feel in my hand, love the way they look on my shelves, I even love the way they smell. I was thoroughly against E-readers when they first came out. I said I’d never give up my paper books. Then I won a Nook at a benefit. Before I knew it, I was downloading books and juggling paperbacks. Now that I’m older (and my eyes aren’t as good) I read evenly between my E-books and my paper books. And I know I’m reading more because of technology, not less.

I can still wander around a bookstore for hours, reading the insides of dust jackets and admiring the cover art. By the time I’m ready to leave I have two or three books in hand and two or three listed in my phone for download later. It’s the best of both worlds.

And if there’s good coffee in the bookstore I just might not leave until they kick me out!
