There is more news

As I type this, my narrator, Vanessa Packwood, is finalizing the audio of Hollywood Hero, which was especially tricky to record because there are several character accents. The housekeeper is of German heritage, there are a couple of French Canadian characters, and of course Wendy is Latina. Two dog characters – different breeds – have a voice as well.

Since Vanessa is in the UK, an English accent comes naturally. I was surprised to learn one of the secondary characters has an English accent!

The Caught on Camera June promo is a lead-in to the upcoming release of the Hollywood Hero audiobook in August. Wendy and Halden’s rocky road to love takes place at a rundown fishing lodge exactly one year after the wedding.

Insider Info

First, some details about the all important narrator. Vanessa Packwood is a Canadian actor currently based in London, UK. One of the reasons I selected her is that Vanessa is fluent in French. She absolutely nails the Marie-Eve character’s Canadian Québécois accent.

For direction as to Rachel’s character and voice, I sent Vanessa some links to YouTube clips of the TV show Ally McBeal, which starred Calista Flockhart as the leggy lawyer. Here is one of my favorite clips of the show. Ally in this scene is exactly how I imagined Rachel’s natural appearance before she gets the full spa treatment. Young, so handsome guest star Robert Downey Jr. fits my image of Mickey.

Next Up: Hollywood Hero

To complete Halden’s love story arc, Vanessa will narrate Hollywood Hero after the play she is in this winter wraps. The audiobook is scheduled to be released in June 2022, followed by Seduced by the Screenwriter in time for Christmas 2022.

I had a difficult time choosing the name of the dog who will reside at the fishing lodge in the upcoming Hollywood Hero novel starring Halden Armstrong and Wendy Davila. Your suggestions were awesome. I narrowed it down to a final three: Chessy, Harley, and Brandy.

By the way, the names of our family’s Chesapeake Bay retrievers were Cindy and Taffy. I do seem to like dog names ending in Y, apparently.

Finally I decided on “Brandy“, because the name reflects the rich color of the after-dinner drink. I can picture guests at the lodge sitting by the fire with a glass of brandy in hand and the old dog Brandy laying on the scarred hardwood floor at their feet.

I am now ready to get down to writing Book 3 in the Hollywood in Muskoka series. You can see the Hollywood Hero cover and blurb here.

Brandy will also appear in Book 5, which will be Wade’s love story.

The dog days of summer aren’t completely over! I’m awarding a proof copy of the “hot off the press” Seduced by the Screenwriter paperback to the person who suggests the name I choose for the dog in the upcoming Hollywood Hero, book 3 in the Hollywood in Muskoka series.

In Hollywood Hero, Halden Armstrong and Wendy Davila stay at a remote Muskoka fishing lodge. Yes, you guessed it…this is the “cooped up together in a remote cabin” romantic trope. The A-list actor and his personal assistant have such busy lives in LA. How else can I get those two to spend time together overnight?

The dog-in-residence at the fishing lodge is an old Chesapeake Bay Retriever.  My family had two beloved female Chesapeakes when I was growing up. They were both very smart, loved the water, and were protective of us kids. Although many Chesapeakes are owned by duck hunters and are trained to retrieve ducks, our dogs only ever retrieved balls and sticks.

Chesapeakes have thick, curly short hair. In Hollywood Hero, the female is this cinnamon color, and is eleven years old.
