Tamara Madison grew up on a citrus farm in the southern California desert, near a town called Mecca. She has traveled and lived in many places, including the former Soviet Union and Grenoble, France. A graduate of Georgetown University, where she majored in Linguistics, she currently teaches French and, reluctantly, English in a public high school in Los Angeles. Don't get her started on the subject of the current state of education because she is very, very angry about it. She is also a nature enthusiast whose beautiful dog recently died so she is in mourning.

Hello Good Readers!

I am new to the blogosphere, having tried unsuccessfully to get my own website going which just got to be too frustrating and time-consuming. So this is going to be my blog until I figure out how to do it on my own website, and possibly even thereafter.

I begin my blog on a beautiful January day looking out my kitchen window onto a view of evergreens and jacarandas and grass under a steel-gray clou Read more of this blog post »

Wendell Berry
“The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
Wendell Berry, The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry
