“Somewhere on the lower east side, an artist had once handed me a map she'd designed. Instead of landmark buildings or venues, the map contained references to important events that had happened to her at certain cross streets, coffee shops, parks. The map had guided me through that stranger's breakups, memorable encounters, unforgettable parties, exquisite dinners. The map also revealed the exact locations of a haunting confession, a betrayal, and a promise that would soon be forgotten. A map of emotions was perhaps closer to anyone's perception of reality. While walking through a familiar city, wasn't spatial awareness always linked to old memories and regrets?”
