In the Deep of Morning

As shadows dance
in spirited unison
during the predawn hours
I reach for his hand

Certain he will extend his
in tandem
Our marital covenant
unrivaled, fathomless

Though interrupting his slumber
his fingers brush against mine
gently caressing my hand
Our brief distance narrowed by
delicate linen sheets of emerald and blue

In contentment we smile
unbeknowst to each other
surrounded by tranquility
in the deep of morning

For Him

I am beautiful
bathing in the light
of his glory
Unashamed
Boastful even
Proud to declare
his love for me
has elevated my being
to a higher state
Doubt, desperation and depression
no longer
within reach
light years away
from my realm of
possibilities
Thankful I am
That he continues
to show me
the way to be
despite my humanity
I glow
in a world that purposely
attempts to dim my light
Extinguish my internal flame
which burns brightly
For I reside
where love for self is king
Because
I was made
in the image of
by
and for
him

Flashbacks of a Fool

Why did I think
it was normal to scream
Hearing my name cursed
couldn't be that mean

Broken doors
Shattered dreams
Not as bad as it seems

Why did I think
It was what I deserved
That I didn't
have the right
to put my feelings first

Why did I
let you change
who I was
Didn't I know
That's not what love does

Just glad to now know
I did what I had to do
Pondering
flashbacks of a fool

It still hurts
my pride today
Just knowing
I let you
hurt me that way

Why wasn't I
smarter than love
Shouldn't I have known
It's not what love does

Just glad I did
What I needed to do
Ecstatic that
I didn't lose me
trying to love you

Its funny because
I knew deep down
we were through
There could never be
a complete me
when that me is loving you
Pondering
Flashbacks of a fool

Love's Surprise

Sometimes love throws you a curve.
It flows outside the lines.
Sometimes love takes broader shape,
Refuses to be confined.
It takes you up, then drops you down.
It smiles at you and then it frowns.
Love pulls you in,
Pretends to stay, and
Evaporates to your dismay.

But love can also be so sweet,
Can pick you up and be complete.
It grows with you and holds you tight
And comforts you late at night
It finds you when you least expect,
And surprises you with no regrets.

It can start as just a fling
And then turn into everything.

So hold on tight,
Enjoy the ride,
And just await your love’s surprise.
