Writer, lawyer, traveller: fascinated by human interaction, relating observations through fiction and non-fiction works.

I am a non-practicing lawyer in search of a forum where prose doesn’t include the terms “notwithstanding” or “but for.”

My insatiable appetite for music, art and literature led to my debut novel, The Death of Rock ‘n’ Roll, The Impossibility of Time Travel and Other Lies. The Death of Rock ‘n’ Roll is the first in a four part series. I am pleased to announce that Elm Grove Publishing has now published the second book, And Then They Ruined Everything, available directly from Elm Grove Publishing, Amazon, or on inquiry w

If it's part of the narrative, or a particular character, then I edit other work. If I'm still blocked then I exercise, usually a long(ish) run and let the pieces fall back into place.

When She Couldn’t Leave Stockholm

A short Halloween poem, more clever than brilliant. Less macabre than creepy. But perhaps something to mark the season.

When She Couldn’t Leave Stockholm

I saw,

an eye saw

It’s my nature that, I soar with every eye sore.

Through the crowded room,

Caught Her Eyes

Caught Her Eyes

I caught her eyes,

I cauterise the eyes she threw.

Watching the youth in her eyes,

Watching me euthanise.

Oh torments bred,

Ope

“The wind of courage had died in my sails leaving me to flounder in the doldrums of my emotions. Was this because I was in a strange town? Because Violet had caused me pain herself? Maybe it was just because courage ebbs and flows and I hadn’t mastered my own emotions, but whatever the reason I was frozen and once again knew the stigma of shame.”
Duncan Milne, The Death of Rock 'n' Roll, The Impossibility of Time Travel and Other Lies

“Fairly examined, truly understood, no man is wholly bad, nor wholly good”
Duncan Milne, The Death of Rock 'n' Roll, The Impossibility of Time Travel and Other Lies

“Never trust a man who reads only one book.”
Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Purity of Blood

“You don't choose your friends, they choose you, and you either reject them or you accept them without reservations.”
Arturo Pérez-Reverte, The Flanders Panel

“Our ability to adapt is amazing. Our ability to change isn't quite as spectacular.”
Lisa Lutz, The Spellmans Strike Again

“Two is company, four is a party, three is a crowd. One is a wanderer.”
James Thurber

“If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.”
Mark Twain
