Weekly Read: Fallen Angels by Anna Mocikat

Fallen Angels is the second book in Anna Mocikat’s dark and sexy cyberpunk action series Behind Blue Eyes.

I read the first book last year, and I’ve been excited to get back to Nephilim’s story. If you love kickass FMC’s, dark sci-fi, and series with a major romance subplot, read on. You’re definitely going to want to get to know Nephilim and Metatron!

But when Jake returns and enemies close in, will Nephilim side with the man who erased her memory? My take: Enjoyed it! Weekly Read: Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Okay, you guys were right. I shouldn’t have waited so long to jump on the Red Rising bandwagon.

I just finished book one and I’m blown away. Brown’s writing is top-quality, giving readers all the tension, intrigue, moral dilemmas and twists we long for in Space Opera, all from a single first person POV that brings the reader right into the centre of the action to feel every scene personally. I’m impressed, and so ready for more.

Good thing all but the final book in this seven-novel series...

Weekly Read: Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove

I listened to this one on audio while I was road tripping around Oregon, USA this October. Along with Ruby Dixon’s Space Vampire, it’s another one on my list of “Halloweeny” sci-fi books that I’d hoped to review before October 31st.

But even though I’m a day late with this one, Of Monsters and Mainframes is a fun read for any time of year–if quirky characters and unlikely scenarios are your thing.

Summary: An AI spaceship must work with it’s frenemy AI medical unit and a ragtag group of friends to confront campy paranormal monsters. My take: Enjoyed it! If you like campy sixties sci-fi, classic Adams Family vibes, and the relationship between Murderbot and Art, this one’s for you.Author: Barbara Truelove Series: Standalone Sci-fi Subgenre: Adventure, Comedy Style: Voicey POV : Multiple Spice: N/A

Weekly Read: Space Vampire by Ruby Dixon

I don’t know if it’s just the ones I happen to pick, but every time I read an alien romance, I’m always surprised at how wholesome they feel despite all the smut. Each alien romance I’ve read has been a sweet, simple love story where the guy is super respectful and just wants to care for and protect the girl. The romance couples overcome small obstacles, have great sex, and live happily ever after in committed monogamous relationships. The end.

Sometime’s there’s not much to them plot wise, b...

Author Interview: Amber Toro

If you love epic space sagas, Han Solo coded FMC’s and MMC’s like Li Shang from Mulan, you’re going to want to save this interview!

Today I’m talking with Amber Toro, whose space opera Umbra: Sentient Stars gave me all these vibes plus a whole lot of Last Air Bender feels when I listened to the audiobook this past spring. (See my review here.) Amber has just released the audio version of her sequel: Parallax, and for me it’s a must-buy.

I can’t wait to “read” the audio book so I can spend time...

Weekly Read: Other Worlds– A Sci-fi Anthology

Other Worlds is a 2025 collaboration between indie authors Ben Logsdon, Erica Rue, R.Lynn Hanks, Calanthe Colt, Amber Toro, Ilias Siametis, Amy Marie Ayres and Alana Faye Wilson.

I picked up this collection of short stories hoping to find new indie authors to love, and I was not disappointed. Each story had something interesting to offer, and while not all of the writing styles were to my taste, I discovered several new authors whose work I want to look into further, and one new fave whose fu...

Weekly Read: Volatile Memory by Seth Haddon

When it comes to sci-fi romance, I’ve read some weird stuff–from aliens who give great oral to gothic horror set inside the guts of a living spaceship. But I honestly never thought I’d pick up a sentient object romance until I read the blurb for Volatile Memory.

Yes, the FMC falls in love with a haunted mask.

Yes, it is super weird.

And yes, I absolutely loved it!

Scavenger Wylla finds an AI mask haunted by the ghost of its murdered wearer, and helps the dead woman exact revenge on the husband who killed her. Loved it! Deep relationships, pacey action scenes, and interesting insights.Author Seth Haddon Series: Volatile Memory Duology #1 Genre: Dystopian Sci-fi Romance Style: Lyrical POV: Second Person Spice level: one, only kissing, F/F

The Story

In a spacefaring future controlled by dystopian corporate empires, people wear AI animal masks tha...

Weekly Read: Dot Slash Magic by Liz Shipton

OMG you guys, this book!

I thought I knew what I was getting into with this one. I knew it would be funny because it’s written by viral booktoker Liz Shipton, and if you’ve seen Liz’s videos, you know she has a great sense of humour. I knew it would be spicy. I knew it would have monster battles and found family and tech. I KNEW all that, but then I read it and despite all that… I WAS STILL BLOWN AWAY by this book!

The Story

It’s kind of like Zodiac Academy meets Techwitch ...

Weekly Read: Chaos by Constance Fay

When it comes to sci-fi romance, I’m in it for two things: kissing and explosions.

That’s probably why Constance Fay’s Uncharted Hearts series has quickly become one of my all-time faves. I’ve already reviewed the first two books, Calamity and Fiasco. This week I devoured the third instalment, Chaos. I’m happy to report that the third-in-series does not disappoint.

Set against the havoc of a prison break gone awry, Chaos truly lives up to its name. It delivers exactly as promised: explosiv...
