“El epimisio es contiguo a los tendones en los extremos del músculo (figura 1.3). El tendón se inserta en el periostio, un tejido conjuntivo especializado que recubre todos los huesos; cualquier contracción del músculo tirará del tendón y este, a su vez, del hueso. Los músculos de las extremidades presentan dos inserciones en el hueso: una proximal (más cercana al tronco) y otra distal (más alejada del tronco). Las dos inserciones de los músculos del tronco se denominan superior (más próxima a la cabeza) e inferior (más próxima a los pies).”
