The World of Horrors, Inc.
Hello all!
Bound to the Abyss 4 is moving along, but I wanted to let you know about my other project, Horrors, Inc.
Imagine that every myth, ghost story, and monster were based on something that existed in the modern world. Magic was real. Strange artifacts that can perform miraculous events, including connecting our world to others and the gods that inhabit them, can be found. Or created.
This is the world of Horrors, Inc.
What if a few mega corporations, in cooperation with the governments of the world, kept it all from the general public? How could such a world-wide coverup exist with monsters and worse loose in the world? By those same companies employing the best minds to study the strange and weird. By enlisting the best soldiers(and killers) in the world to track the bizarre and dangerous down and "acquire" them. Regardless of the collateral damage.
Enter Squad K
Horrors, Inc is a completely new world I've created that has both a novel and comic element!
Horrors, Inc the novel available for pre-order here!
http://a.co/ckPKMhU
Eddie Watson is an underachiever. He holds a degree in philosophy, but is perfectly content working as a janitor at the most advanced pharmaceutical and tech company in the world, Soladyne Corporation. Little does he know his job is about to take him on a strange journey into the bowels of the company’s secret laboratories from where man’s deepest fears have escaped to terrorize Eddie and his co-workers.
The easy-going janitor is forced to face monsters, both savage and intelligent, that have spent years being poked and prodded for science. Defend against the mystical and dark arts of Soladyne's enemies and their infiltrators. And ultimately even if he survives, must decide whether his own company and those that know its inner workings are even worth saving.

Lots Going On
Hello Everyone!
I know its been a while since I've done a blog post so I wanted to give everyone an update on whats going on.
1) Horrors, Inc - For those that don't know, after I finished publishing Enemies and Allies, I took a break from the Bound to the Abyss series to write a seperate novel that was a horror/dark comedy. Since it has nothing to do with the Three Moons Realm (well, more like 99%, there might be a small connection ;) ) I'm running a Kickstarter to get it published. You can find it here.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...
The reason for another Kickstarter is because any profits I've made for the Bound to the Abyss series I put away so that I can continue the series. I don't want to take that money away from future books. So if this new story catches your interest feel free to show some support and spread the word!
2) Audible Version of Enemies and Allies - Its all wrapped up and I'm just waiting for the other company to finish getting it ready and put it out. Based on their own estimates it should have been ready by now, but I'll let you know as soon as it is released.
3) Bound to the Abyss Book 4 - First draft is coming along nicely. If the third novel was about Ean going out and discovering more of the world, this next novel is about him coming home and figuring out the responsibilities he has as he struggles between his human relationships and those with the creatures from the Abyss. At the moment I'm 33 chapters in and getting close to the start of the third act. No set release date of course, but I'll keep everyone updated as I reach the different stages of pre-production.
Well that's it. Feel free to send any questions you might have, as I love hearing from fans.
Until next time!
James

NaNoWriMo
Starting tomorrow, National Novel Writing Month is upon us, which I'm again attempting. For those that don't know, its a program for authors were they support each other in writing 50,000 words in the month of November for whatever project they are working on.
I figure this year, with a strong focus on BttA 4 I should be able to write the average 1,667 words per day to reach the target goal of 50,000 words for the month. Especially if I get some support from all of you along the way! As of now the novel is 14 chapters and 36,928. So any word count on the site is addition to the 36,928.
You can follow my progress(word count) here.
http://nanowrimo.org/participants/rve...
So check out the page, track my progress, and feel free to send some words of encouragement and if I'm successful, I should have at least 3/4s of the book written by the end of the month!

Big Update
Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed your summer. I know things have been quiet on my front and their are a few reasons for that which I hope to clear up in this post. Up ahead prepare for some good news, some bad news, and looking ahead to the future. Excuse my rambling, but its the best way I know to get everything out.
Avoiding Author Burnout
So the bad news first. Since about the end of April - early May I haven't touched the fourth Bound to the Abyss novel. Before those that enjoy the story get out your torches and pitchforks let me explain why.
I started writing about Ean, Zin, and Azalea back in 2011. I was three years into teaching at a school an hour away from where I lived, newly married, and we had just found out our first son was on the way. Over the next three years I spent what dwindling free time I had into a story that I would later split into two novels. I ran a barely successful Kickstarter (THANK YOU SUPPORTERS) and things have steam rolled on every since. I just released Enemies and Allies, two years after the first and second book. Even while the finishing touches were going into Book 3, I was already plotting out and throwing scenes together for Book 4.
And that's when I realized I needed to step back. I feel like the fourth book will tell a great story and is plotted out to connect a good amount of threads from the first three books (if you finished the third, the fourth picks up at the exact moment the fourth ends so you'll understand what I mean). The problem comes from the fact that I've been writing about Ean and his crew for 5 years, nonstop, in what little time a full time teacher and father of two overly energetic boys can find. And going through the dozen or so chapters I was writing for Book 4, I realized I was just phoning it in and that's not what I want for this series I love so much. So I saved everything I had so far, closed the file, and haven't opened it up all summer.
Taking a Break Without Taking a Break
So what does a indie author do when he isn't working on his flagship series? Start something new! Over the course of the summer I've written a ~114,000 word horror/comedy novel. I don't want to go into too much detail on the above novel yet. It's just a first draft and I'm still fixing it up and having my wonderful critiquer run through it. When it gets closer to completion, I'll start talking about it more. For now though, I feel its more important to mention how it relates to the BttA Series.
Writing something completely different from the Bound to the Abyss series has allowed me to take a break from writing fantasy while still trying to improve my story-telling and writing skills. What this should hopefully mean for those that are fans of Bound to the Abyss is that Book 4 should be even tighter and more entertaining then any of my other novels. And more then that, after taking a four month break I am totally refreshed and ready to dive back in and really give the fourth novel the attention it deserves.
So Where Are We At?
This week I return to my full time job of teaching. A busy time with very little free time. After I settle into the year, it will be full steam ahead on BttA 4. As I mentioned, the plot and basic structure of the novel chapter by chapter is already lined up. My first task will be to go through the twelve or so chapters I've already written and really do them the justice they deserve. Then I'll move on to finishing the rest (at the moment its plotted out to over 40 chapters, so the biggest novel in the series so far).
Of course, this early in the writting process and having no idea how the school year will go, I can't give even the roughest estimate on when it could be completed. I missed a lot of guesses for the publish date for the third book so I certainly don't want to make that mistake this time around. Just know that I appreciate everyone's patience and I will obviously keep you all up to date as things move forward.
Thank you everyone for your continued support and I look forward to talking and hearing from you all as the writing process for Bound to the Abyss Book 4 really gets underway!

BttA 3 Launch Day
Hello all,
Just checking in to say hello and thank you all for your interesting in Enemies and Allies, Book 3 in the Bound to the Abyss Series. I am happy to say that because of the pre-orders and todays sales the novel jumped all the way up to the top 20 in epic fantasy. Felt good to be sitting between Lev Grossman's The Magicians and Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn:Secret History, even if it was just for a couple of hours.
I love Sci-Fi's take on the Magicians and I'm picking up the book for my wife on her birthday. I just recently got into Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy (still need to get to the third book) so having a title sit with those heavy fantasy hitters was a true highlight.
So great day so far, but any extra push I can get from all of you to stay there would be greatly appreciated. So please spread the word!

Holiday Update
Hi everyone!
Hope you are all enjoying your holidays. I just wanted to give you another update about whats going on with book three of the Bound to the Abyss series.
Critiquing of the book by my excellent reader is finished! That means the first major part of the post-writing process is complete. I've also had the first round of edits for the first half of the book completed and have finished the revisions on them. So that's all of the good news.
Bad news is that because of my miscalculating the time frame for everything (100% my fault) my wonderful editor is busy with other projects and can't get started on the second half of the book until January 11th. That of course pushes the release date back further (again 100% my fault!)
So as of now, still no set release date but we are certainly getting closer. I don't want to give any estimates yet but as soon as the editing is complete and the only thing that's left is the formatting I'll set up the ebook for pre-release and set the finalized release date.
Thank you all so much for your patience and I promise you will hear from me again soon!
