Appropriately for the author ballsy enough to use the word "victor" ironically in an American YA series, said series ends with one long joyless victory - for Peetniss shippers, for the rebel districts of Panem, and pretty much everyone else.

I don’t believe in the accuracy of this depiction of the interior life of Thomas Cromwell for a second. But that hardly detracts from what is a towering achievement, a transformation of historical facts and figures at a time of wild political and cul ...more
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
"Wolf Hall is the kind of book that gets better the more you think about it. Its protagonist is Thomas Cromwell: a villain in A Man for All Seasons but here a man with a family, a career, and a sharp way of thinking. He doesn't want to be a saint; he " Read more of this review »

“If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.”

Elena Ferrante
“Literary truth is not the truth of the biographer or the reporter, it’s not a police report or a sentence handed down by a court. It’s not even the plausibility of a well-constructed narrative. Literary truth is entirely a matter of wording and is directly proportional to the energy that one is able to impress on the sentence. And when it works, there is no stereotype or cliché of popular literature that resists it. It reanimates, revives, subjects everything to its needs.”

TGWTMH is about 40 pages or less, so closer to one of her short stories probably.

If you read it, you'll have to let me know where it falls on the spectrum of the books of hers you've read.
