The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Hi guys,

Thanks for dropping by. ;-))
I'm really excited to have been invited onto The Next Big Thing Blog Hop! Hope you all enjoy reading a bit more about my writing and inspiration behind my INTO THE DARK SERIES. Ok. Here goes. Bring on the questions...

What is the title of your book?
My newly released YA series is called INTO THE DARK. There are four parts to the story. I wanted to release the story of Emily and Henry in episodes, like a TV mini-series.

Where did the idea come from for the book?
The story is the result of everything that was floating around in my mind in 2010.  I'd been interested in different states of consciousness for a while and wanted to explore that idea further. What would it be like trying to live a 'normal' life as a teen, whilst coping with blacking out and everything that entails? I also LOVE a good true love story, so that was a really important element for me.

What genre does your book fall under?
The INTO THE DARK SERIES is a YA series aimed at 16+ yos. In the Amazon Kindle book store, the series is classed as YA action & adventure, and YA love & romance.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie?

I LOVE Lily Collins. I think she'd make a fab Emily. She has the right look, kick-ass attitude and is a great young actress.

I do love Andrew Garfield. I think he'd make a brilliant Henry. He's the right mix of sexy, romantic and action hero. The guy has it all!

Andrew Garfield

What is a one sentence synopsis for the series?
17-year-old Oxford student Emily Baxter blacks out, kicks ass with Misery-Makers in parallel universes and falls in love with the darkly beautiful Henry Seadon. What more do you want?!

Are your books published on Amazon Kindle?
Yes!  You can download them within seconds and be finding out what happens between Emily and Henry.

COMING SOON!

How long did it take you to write the first draft?
I worked on the series in 2010-2011. The first very rough draft took about 5 months, with me working full time on the manuscript. The rest of the time, I worked hard on editing, polishing, getting Beta Reader feedback and re-working the story until it shone!

I kept the following quote in mind;

"Great books aren't written. They're rewritten."

That kept me going!

What other books would  you compare this story to within your genre?
I'd say it has the exciting action adventure of The Hunger Games Trilogy, mixed with the love and romance of The Twilight Saga.

Who or what inspired you to write this story?
My son, J inspired me with his unique gifts and journey through life. Kids show incredible learning capacity, adaptability and courage every day. I wanted to honour that spirit.

What else about your story might pique the reader's interest?
In part 4, everyone goes crazy, rips their clothes off, and they get down and dirty! Find out how THAT happens...  ;-))

A big "THANK YOU" to Diana Nixon for inviting me to join The Next Big Thing Blog Hop! Join me next week, when I share with you my five author picks for ones to watch in 2013.

Happy Christmas!

Love stories that give you goose-bumps?

Try this heart-stopping collection...

Running in the Dark is a collection of two short stories by my fab writer friend, Nicole Singer: the title story, which is a thriller told in second person, and a bonus tale called Being Batman. The total length is 5,000 words, or approximately 14 book pages.

Running in the Dark
He snatched you. Took you in plain sight during your evening jog. But you’re not going down without a fight. When the stakes are high, when the darkness closes in, when the footsteps behind get closer and closer, there’s only one thing left to do…keep running.

Being Batman
Most boys dream of being superheroes so they can fly, flaunt their superstrength against bullies, or turn invisible around girls.

Ash isn’t most boys.

He dreams of Batman for sheer survival. By age nine, he’s seen his parents die in a car accident, watched four foster homes come and go, and decided it’s safer to stay hidden behind masks. When trouble with a modern-day Batmobile lands him in yet another foster home, Ash begins to wonder if even superheroes are strong enough to renew his belief in love and family.
