Karl Morgan grew up fascinated by science fiction, beginning with Victor Appleton’s Tom Swift novels that he read as a young boy. Later, he became enthralled with the works of his favorite author, Isaac Asimov, especially his Foundation series.

Those early experiences inspired his life-long love of science fiction and interest in hard science, focusing first on astronomy and later cosmology and quantum mechanics. Karl had the great honor to take his first astronomy course at the University of Iowa from the legendary scientist, Dr. James Van Allen. More recently, the brilliant works of Drs. Stephen Hawking, Brian Greene, and Michio Kaku helped him understand that our physical universe is still a magical and mysterious place.

Everyone has at least one great story inside of them. I wrote my first book almost 30 years ago, back in the day when traditional publishing was the only option. Obviously, the flurry of rejection letters forced me to push it into memory. Now, with other options, I have written eleven books, eight of which are already on sale. If I expected to be a best-selling author, I probably would have given up again already. But that is not what it's about. Tell the world what you want to say! It doesn't matter whether it becomes a money-maker or not, although seeing people buy your work is a real thrill. Either way though, you will know that you have said what you wanted to say, and please know that there are plenty of people out there who will find a connection to your words.

And please let me know about your books. I would love to read what you have to say.(less)

Before that came back from proofreading, I started a new fantasy novel with the working title "Whistlestop". I am probably 80% to 90% finished with the rough draft. I entered NaNoWriMo again this year and got about 50% to 60% through book 4 of Modern Prophets (working title "Demonic"). I've taken a step back and am totally focused on finishing "Hand of God" first. The others will just have to wait, although I must confess I think about those stories all the time.(less)

A Change of Plans

I know my last post spoke about a different story, but now I can say my next novel is Em Primus. The way my mind works, I am always in the middle of several stories. Em Primus drew me into the plot and I had to complete it as quickly as possible. This is the front cover of the book.

Em Primus takes place far into our future. Artificial Intelligence is just being harnessed today, but in the future,

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

Albert Einstein
“God does not play dice with the universe.”
Albert Einstein, The Born-Einstein Letters 1916-55

“For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk and we learned to listen. Speech has allowed the communication of ideas, enabling human beings to work together to build the impossible. Mankind's greatest achievements have come about by talking, and its greatest failures by not talking. It doesn't have to be like this. Our greatest hopes could become reality in the future. With the technology at our disposal, the possibilities are unbounded. All we need to do is make sure we keep talking.”
Stephen Hawking

“The victim should have the right to end his life, if he wants. But I think it would be a great mistake. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope.”
Stephen W. Hawking
