Why Kids Shouldn't Have Cell Phones
A (probably shouldn't be surprisingly) philosophical take from Louis C.K. on CONAN:
While I don't agree with his life is meaningless/forever empty take, everything else in this clip is spot-on.

Reflections on NaBloPoMo - Time to Unplug
I said I would share reflections on my National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) experience last month, in December. Obviously, I didn't. All I offered last month was a picture of some strange handwritten poem-type entry in my journal.
Hmph.
The reason I couldn't muster the gumption to reflect on my month's worth of blather is my own sullen, childish attitude. (Here's where this post starts sounding like a pity party, so feel free to quit reading and move on if a pity party ain't your kind...

On Sound - NaBloPoMo 30 (It's over now.)
Sound is my favorite perception.
I like feeling the vibrations of sound. I like seeing people hearing sounds: their faces contorting into all sorts of magic emotions.
Were I to be forced to choose between going deaf and going blind, I would most certainly choose the latter. I feel like I really don't needto see – although I'm sure I'd change my tune if I actually went blind – but sound... feels like something I can't do without.
I can't imagine actual silence. I literally can't. There isn't a...

Sidebar Artists - NaBloPoMo - 29 down, 1 to go.
I'm running out of steam on NaBloPoMo, as you can tell by the blather you're about to read. Continue reading only if you're really bored.
I wonder who designs those nauseating sidebar advertisements seen on so many websites.
I'm not talking about the very sleek, aesthetically-pleasing ones that are obviously toting a popular, well-known product. Yes, Prilosec, I see you over there... I'm talking about that ones that use a series of gaudy .gif's that perpetually cycle through choppy...

A short list of good ambient musicians - NaBloPoMo 27
Only rarely do I write while not listening to music. And rarely do I write while listening to music with lyrics. This limits my music selection considerably.
Over the past 4-5 years, I've developed a long list of "favorite" ambient musicians. Almost all of these ambient music "finds" come from Pandora stations that I've based on more mainstream artists or songs. If you're at all inclined to listen to ambient music, whether it be while working, doing homework, cleaning,...

When will physical be back in fashion? - NaBloPoMo 26
I'm not that old.
But I'm old enough to pine for the days when (normal) people wrote each other letters. Somewhere, stashed away in the drop ceiling of one of my old places of residence, sit two huge shoeboxes stuffed with hundreds (thousands?) of notes from grade school and high school.
Yellowing paper, wilting in the humidity and wild temperature swings of unconditioned space above the ceiling, all expertly folded into sturdy squares.
And it just dawned on me that neither o...

Blade Runner: Thoughts on the film - NaBloPoMo 25
Why I waited so long to watch the arguably best sci-fi movie ever, I have no idea. But I finally did watch Blade Runner this year. I somehow managed to pick one of the only films our old library had on Blu-Ray, so my first Blade Runner experience came with extra clarity and attention to detail.
I think the event that finally convinced me to watch Blade Runner was the episode of Community where Abed made several references to Deckard (Harrison Ford) in one of the recent episodes (I...
