Michael Robinson built his success from humble beginnings in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His family instilled in him a core set of humanistic values, together with a sense of self worth derived from a warm and loving community. These values and characteristics served as the foundation for building a company that has withstood the challenges that entrepreneurs face on a daily basis.
He got his start working on Wall Street as a Senior Financial Analyst for Barclays Bank PLC, while he obtained his bachelors and masters degrees from Brooklyn College. With that experience under his belt, armed with a modest sum of money, a carefully constructed business plan, and a spirit of adventure, he resigned from his job to pursue his goals. In January 1992, he launched New York Staffing Services, Inc. specializing in "financial staffing." Six months later growth demanded an office in Manhattan, which has since grown to branches in Tampa, Florida and Bridgewater, New Jersey. By 1999, New York Staffing boasted over 450 employees nationwide. "We are committed to innovative, outside the box strategies and finding new ways of doing old things better," says Robinson.
Tested by the horrific events of September 11, 2001, when vulnerable companies stopped hiring, Michael sprang into proactive leadership mode by collaborating with various Twin Towers Job Placement efforts and job expos. A thorough knowledge of the marketplace and corporate landscape enabled him to reach out to hiring managers in order to provide solutions and resolve uncertainties. Even more than before, he dedicated himself to leading a team effort that prioritized careful research into candidates and opportunities, providing referrals, workshops, job boards, networking options, and job counseling services for many workers affected by the events of 9/11.
In 2006, Michael Robinson launched his second company, Microbin. An Internet based Workforce Capital Management firm with onsite capabilities at major corporations. It streamlines the staffing process while saving clients time and money.
In recognition of Michael's achievement, in 2003, Inc Magazine designated New York Staffing Services as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S. Michael has received many other citations and awards, including an award for Outstanding Business Enterprise by the National Minority Business Council, Inc. in April 2009. Following on the heels of initiatives and innovative thinking the New York Enterprise Report honored the company with the Diverse Supplier of the Year award in October 2010. In recent months, he has been featured in Forbes Magazine and as a guest on the CBS Evening News on several occasions, and has also appeared on News 1 New York to discuss healthcare reform and the current state of employment. Michael's new book, "One Hundred Pennies," is a wake up call focusing on small businesses, jobs and the economy, due to be released in January 2013.
In his capacity as an empowerment speaker, Michael lectures and gives workshops at colleges and universities throughout the United States. He serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of The National Minority Business Council. An avid adventurer, athlete and huge supporter of the arts, he currently resides in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn....more
