Ms. Abbott is remarried after being abused in her first marriage. She and her husband have seven children and several grandchildren. They are passionate about their church, overseas missions and the fight against human trafficking. They enjoy bike riding and traveling together. Ms. Abbott is also an accomplished painter. She enjoys cross stitching and knitting. One of her greatest joys is helping abuse victims escape from their abusers, and then walking with them through their healing process.

I was expecting a light romance, I was shocked when the heroines story was so very dark for so long. Well written but painful to read.

This book is well written, but the story so sad and gruesome it was difficult to read. I finally skipped to the end, which was exciting but equally gruesome.

“Perhaps you expected to feel great as soon as you escaped your abuser, and maybe you did feel a great sense of relief for a while. However, as time has passed, you may be dismayed by the extent of your emotional pain.”
Caroline Abbott, A Journey to Healing After Emotional Abuse

“Leaving - and healing from - an abusive relationship is extremely stressful. Your body may show the signs of the stress. While dealing with your emotions may make sense to you, you may neglect your physical health, not realizing how much your physical health affects your emotional and spiritual health.”
Caroline Abbott, A Journey to Healing After Emotional Abuse

“A pastor who counsels an abuse victim to:
- Submit to her husband
- Pray harder, or
- Be a better wife
can't help her. She should not feel guilty about looking elsewhere for help.”
Caroline Abbott, A Journey through Emotional Abuse: From Bondage to Freedom

“In a verbally abusive relationship, the partner learns to tolerate abuse without realizing it and to lose self-esteem without realizing it. She is blamed by the abuser and becomes the scapegoat. The partner is then the victim.”
Patricia Evans, The Verbally Abusive Relationship: How to Recognize It and How to Respond

“Verbal abuse by its very nature undermines and discounts its victim’s perceptions.”
Patricia Evans, The Verbally Abusive Relationship: How to Recognize It and How to Respond

Caroline Abbott, A Journey through Emotional Abuse: From Bondage to Freedom

“Learn to say to the abuser in a firm voice, "Stop it." Do not explain yourself, your needs, or what you mean. Simply call a halt to the abuse, and let that be your final word.”
Caroline Abbott, A Journey through Emotional Abuse: From Bondage to Freedom

“Jesus and Paul knew the Old Testament completely. Their comments about divorce were meant to add to, not replace or change, what was already written in the Old Testament about marriage and divorce.”
